The message came windward
An unspoken regret
Festered within the canker of insinuated slaps against faces
Flurries of hurried expression
Buried scrolls that carried confessions
Uncovered by brushes sweeping at dusty pride
Wide spread bristles
Nestled in wells of subdued aching
Having and holding
Strutting with pretentious display
That which I vowed carry to my grave
I saved the answers I searched for
But they were right there, within the question’s
Those why’s and good reasons not to
I‘d painted on my mind
And before I could even utter them
I knew...
“I forgive you”
Words
That burned at the cornerstones of my eyes
Then spilled into pools
Filling the cups of my ears
A fear mingled with tears that would not stain my pillow
They fled from weep holes
shouting to my soul
And the more I resisted, the less I could not
I whispered a mixture of curdled phlegm and need
Caught at the back of my throat
Choking on blames I thought I would always heed
And adhere to…
Degenerate breeds trying to earn overpaid wages
In my heart
To make good my debt
I kept uttering this overdue bill
“I forgive you”
The words
Streamed through a silence that had been a strobe effect
Neglected in the scheme of things
Flooding through cracks of a well-designed flow
The meaning held hostage
Within unoccupied space
Where no movement had taken place
Though performed in the same space
At the exact same pace
Yet growth would not reside
Hate and love were unable to abide
Within the same dwelling
The release lay folded between neat pages
Practical changes at the stage of reckoning
Time had come to heal the oozing sap of rotting wounds
Just as deciduous trees lose their leaves
The need lay harvested in the season of autumn’s foundation
A reaping well beyond the point of usefulness
Situations that kept reconstructing themselves
Procreating the DNA of even greater hate
Forgive us our debts
In the same way
We forgive our debtors
The answer
Had forever been in the asking
