Today I Dreamt A Man

Who is this unmasked man?
He walked through the door
A composure commanding attention
I knew I’d never seen him before
His face unfamiliar
Yet the
Familiarness of his presence
Digressed within me any hesitance
I felt his spirit
His spoke to mine in a verbiage
I had long since been unaccustomed to
But in a language that I knew
And it was Heavenly
Heaven sent, Heaven spent
I lent my hearing to hang on his every word
And the next noun
And the next verb
I closed my eyes and let pictures collide
Translating mental images like kaleidoscopic prisms
He became my dream in that very instance
I day-dazed
And grazed in his lyrical pasture
He was a master at this thing he did
Was doing
I remained transfixed
chewing, hanging on every
Syl-la-ble
As if my life depended on them
I could not keep my mind off of them
Nor him
Mesmerized, hypnotized by…
This man
This man
This fine specimen
Must be 7 feet tall
Smooth and black
Like my morning cup of coffee
With teeth of ivory
Eyes that could cast spells
And hands that could slay Lions bare
All I could do was stare
From my mind’s eye
I snatched the opportunity
To open my eyes
To see
To search for a lie
And only found truth
He sat in a booth across the room
I was awakened from my dream state
My eyes relayed it all to my brain
As they looked upon his small frame
He held a pen in his hand
And
A sort of pad lay on the table before him
Puffs of steam streamed into the air
From the tea that he was sipping
I could see the tag that hung from the side of his cup
But
A red and white cane stood against the wall
All so very close within his reach
And
I realized that...
He was blind
He wore dark shades that covered his eyes
I began to wonder what his dark world was like
Or was mine the world that held darkness
For he is a man
Just as any other
And
I wondered
Again
If his hands… The tips of his fingers
Could trace the fine lines of my mind
And read me
And if so, what would they see
And all he did was order a cup of tea
